Our Commitment To Quality Supplements

Did you know:

  • Plants absorb heavy metals from the soil?
  • Arsenic poisoning has been liked to herbal medicines?
  • Fish oil products can be contaminated with mercury or PCBs?

Most consumers are not aware of the importance of choosing quality in a dietary supplement. Price should not be the determining factor when choosing a dietary supplement because the supplement industry is not yet mature in its regulatory controls. Products may be adulterated with contaminants, contain amounts of active ingredients that are greater or less than that claimed on the label, be unavailable for absorption.

Recently, a consumer watch dog agency,  Consumer Labs, conducted a test on a variety of dietary supplements and found some disturbing results. One product had only 5% of the labeled ingredient. Another had confusing, misleading labeling. Yet another product, containing the mineral chromium, was contaminated with trace amounts of a toxic type of chromium called hexavalent chromium. If you recall, hexavalent chromium is the toxic contaminate investigated by Erin Brockovitch in her well known movie of the same name.

Manufacturing by the prescription drug industry is regulated in the United States by law called Good Manufaturing Practices (GMP). The Food and Drug Administation (FDA) is allowed to inspect prescription drug manufacturing facilities for compliance. At the present time, standards for manufacturing and quality testing for the dietary supplement industry are a work in progress.  Eventually there will be a set of GMP tailored for the dietary supplement industry. In the mean time, certain manufacturers set themselves apart by voluntarily complying with all or part of  drug industry GMP. These companies support in house quality control departments, test for product purity and issue certificates of analysis for their products.

Healthy Morning selects manufacturers that compy with drug industry manufacturing standards. Our product manufacturers comply with the following practices:

  • Raw ingredients are of the highest quality and tested for contaminants
  • Voluntary compliance with prescription drug industry GMP.
  • Maintenance of Quality Assurance Departments that test products at multiple stages in manufacturing process
  • Procedures for sanitizing the production process and testing for microbial contamination
  • Testing of finished products for quality and purity by independent laboratories

You may have a special need, such as allergies to dyes or fillers. Some of our product lines are hypoallergenic and do not contain these sensitizing materials. You may require a capsule or tablet with no animal products, such as gelatin. We can work toward solving these problems also.
